If there is one thing NAPP could do to get more UK members is drop the price for the membership for the printed edition to the same as that in the US. I don't know about you but reading a magazine on a computer really sucks. For starters you can't take it with you to the "reading room" AKA "little boys room" plus a multitude of other similar places. Surely it would be possible to use something like Magcloud http://magcloud.com/ to print and distribute them cheaply enough until such time as there is enough subscribers to warrant using a magazine publisher here in the UK to print? £130 is a lot of wedge in the current climate but £65 is much more acceptable. I know I'm not the only one that thinks this way and it is the only reason I haven't as yet joined NAPP. Unless of course someone wants to set up BAPP, in which case I'll have bacon and brown sauce in my bapp please :-)

Yeah... Ummm... We really have no control over shipping charges for periodicals. We are a small company and we are doing everything we can to make Photoshop User available online to our overseas NAPP members so they can save on heinous shipping. However, if you don't like digital, I'm afreaid we can't help you.

I used to pay upwards of $26 an issue for "Deadline" back in the 90's just to get the latest installment of "Tank Girl" from Jaimie Hewlett... and there was no such thing as digital issues back then. I would have killed or died to get Deadline the same day it hit UK stands. :D

With regards to the cost comments I also look at the UK publications available. I used to pay £10 for a copy of Photoshop User magazine either off Ebay or from specialist magazine shops before realising it made more sense to join NAPP.

Photoshop Creative is £78 a year off the shelf, magazine only. Same for Advanced Photoshop. NAPP offers more than just a magazine. Granted, you can't take it to the little boys room but the magazine is just an extension of NAPP membership. I've got used to having a digital version, mainly because I save the extra $100 but I still think $99 for NAPP membership is a bargain. I've saved more than that just being a member. Already I get 15% off Adobe CS5, $100 off Photoshop World and free stuff for renewing plus various other membership discounts. I know I still have to spend on CS5 and Photoshop World but for me it works.
I'm just saying I think that £5 a month for a NAPP membership is cheaper and more beneficial than buying a magazine off the shelf. I've learnt more in the past 2 years than i had in the previous 10 and also I enjoy the community side of it.
For the record, I have paid for my NAPP memberships, Layers subscripitions and my Photoshop World entry. I have no freebies to make me pro-NAPP, I just am ;o)

For me the one thing that I would like NAPP membership to be better at for UK member is the discounts. While there's a good range of discounts UK members could use to get cheaper software / plug-ins, there's an awful lot more for US members such as the MPix, B&H etc discounts. It would be great if Warehouseexpress.com or a similar online retailer that stocks a wide range of photographic gear - that rules out Jessops ;-) - could be lined up for a UK equivalent discount.

I think my number 1 is more/better UK member discounts, a close 2nd would be NAPP events in the UK, even a PS World.

Scott & David - that is one thing I'm going to be working on, UK discounts with UK suppliers. Feel free to offer any suggestions - I will be forwarding to Larry Becker in due course. Thanks for your input fellas !

As a photographer, Photoshop user and dealer in photography equipment maybe I initially came at this from the wrong angle. Or maybe not. I see from other comments that they would like discounts exclusively targeted at uk members and from a photogrphers view I fully agree. However from a dealers point of view I see that first the readership needs to be increased. If you approached me and said "we have 200 members we would like you to offer a discount" the request would end up in the circular file in the corner of my office I call "the bin" if however you told me you had 5000 members I would seriously give it consideration. So from a businessmans point of view, get your uk membership up and the discounts will flow. I have no connection whatsoever with magcloud but it strikes me as an alternative to the high shipping costs. If you want a printed copy you can order one and if not that month there's no need to purchase Before you all poo-poo the idea take a look. If your a photographer take a very good look. Here's an idea, babies 1st year as a magazine or maybe the school prom as a magazine? How many extra sales is that worth?

Thanks for all the feedback. I understand what you mean about the discounts but if businesses come on board and offer discounts then they are going to get publicity on NAPP also. Better discounts are what UK members seem to want before joining, if a few decent names came on board to help increase membership I am certain a few more would follow.
I'm going to work on it anyway, if you don't ask you don't get. And I want UK Apple discounts first !! ;)
